Classicon, Styx
Alexander Taylor, 2008

What is unusual about Alexander Taylor's Styx Table is its substructure of folded steel bands, which bulges before it meets the floor. The glass plate seems to float on top, fixed in place by a strong magnet that eliminates the need for any elaborate anchoring. The top of this coffee table (which comes in either clear or smoked glass) has very generous dimensions to accommodate magazines or books and of course a stimulating cup of coffee. Coffee to stay rather than coffee to go, that is. What a great way to relax!

Classicon, Day Bed
Eileen Gray, 1925

The Day Bed is rightly counted among the most famous designs by Eileen Gray. The lounge "offers pleasant and comfortable seating and is, moreover, particularly suited to relaxing." What she in her own modesty conceals is the fact that the Day Bed is enchantingly beautiful, accessible from all sides and a pleasing sight from every perspective. It is the ideal showpiece to be placed freely in a spacious room.

Classicon, Satish
Eckart Muthesius, 1931

Frame of chromium-plated steel tubing. Upholstery: polyurethane with polyester filling on a beechframe. Cover in leather.
The palace of Maharajah Shri Yeshwant Rao Holkar Bahadur was placed in the far Indies, yet it was equipped with the latest in modern finesse from a western life. This included a billiard room and a bar in an avantgarde style where the walls shimmered blue and silver and stainless steel, lacquer and leather were the dominating materials. The bar stool designed by Eckart Muthesius for this place, is even today, nearly 70 years later, a fascinating and individual design and could be placed in any modern scene-bar. A true modern classic never dies.

Classicon_Occasional Table
Eileen Gray, 1927

Side table with round or rectangular table-tops. Frame of chromium-plated steel tubing. Table-tops of MDF high-gloss lacquer finish in Chinese red, black, grey or white.
The Latin for furniture, "res mobiles," is based on the word mobile. Eileen Gray took this very literally. She loved light, functional furniture that one could move around without problem. One can lift this table "for all occasions" as if it had a handle and carry it exactly to where one needs it. Like the "Adjustable Table E 1027," it is constructed such as to slide the base under the bedside or armchair. Thus breakfast or bedtime reading is within comfortable reach.

Classicon, Petite Coiffeuse
Eileen Gray, 1929

Eileen Gray understood how to combine the aesthetic with the practical as did few designers. The geometrically structured small dressing table, designed for her summerhouse E1027, is a proof of this. The drawers in the small side box of the Petite Coiffeuse swivel out. Everything is reduced to the essentials, but it is all within easy reach.

Classicon, E1027
Eileen Gray, 1927

Adjustable side table. Frame of chromium-plated steel tubing. Top of crystal glass clear, parsol grey or metal black.
Among the classics this is perhaps the classic. Its ingeniously proportioned, distinctive form has made this height-adjustable table into one of the most popular design icons of the 20th century. It is named after the summer house E 1027, “Maison en bord de mer”, that Eileen Gray built for herself and for her collaborator, Jean Badovici. Likewise, the secret code-name comes from her: E is for Eileen, 10 for Jean (J is the 10th letter of the alphabet), 2 for B(adovici) and 7 for G(ray).

ClassiCon, Satyr
For Use, 2006/2007

There is no shortage of lounge classics, but hardly any of them is so fresh and saucy as the Satyr. There it stands, bold and robust – and that really is important as this is not a chair for formal sitting, but an invitation to relax, lean back and put your feet up. Paradoxical as it sounds, Satyr is the expression of a timeless attitude casual but demanding unconventionality. Available as armchair and double seater.
